Special Prompts

The following is a list of special prompts for the Special Prompt days in the schedule. This list is not final—feel free to submit ideas you have for Writing Club Special Prompts!

  • Music prompts
    • Everyone emails the President of Writing Club a link to a cool/funny/beautiful/inspiring/’feeling’ piece of music or a sound bite and (if we get too many) the President of Writing Club a will narrow it down to a few pieces of music (perhaps 1-4). We will then listen to these during Writing Club and use them as prompts.

  • Video Prompts
    • Everyone emails the President of Writing Club a a link to a cool/funny/beautiful/inspiring/’feeling’ video clip via a YouTube link and (if we get too many) the President of Writing Club awill narrow it down to a 1-4 videos. We will then show these during Writing Club and use them as prompts.

  • Image Prompts
    • Everyone emails the President of Writing Club one cool/funny/inspiring/’feeling’ image before Writing Club. Lauren/Nicole will put these images in a PowerPoint for everyone to use as prompts in the meeting.
    • There can be specific variations, for instance: Humans of New York photos, Medieval Art pieces, or Bizarre photos

  • Dictionary-Guided Prompt
    • During the meeting, everyone randomly chooses 5-10 words out of the dictionary. These words become the writing prompt; everyone integrates these words in some sort of work.

  • 5 Ws and an H Prompt
    •  Everybody writes some response to the following prompts for a writing project they are currently working on or an entirely new project they came up with at the meeting: who? what? where? why? when? and how?
      • Normal prompts will be provided for those who would rather work on a new writing project

  • Personal Project Day
    • Either Work on whatever you want or print out a copy of something you want other people to help you edit before the meeting.
