Types of Writing Club Meetings

Snoopy writingAs we wrote on our Schedule page, at every meeting participants have the option of working on a prompt we provide, or a project of their ow. For more information about when these various types of writing club meetings are, see our Schedule page.

The following are general guidelines for the various types of Writing Club meetings.

  • Special Prompt day: the group devotes the meeting to responding to a special prompt (see the Special Prompts page). If a person happens to finish writing their response to the special prompt before everyone else, then they may proceed to working on a project or writing from regular prompts.

  • Writing Activity day: the group spends the meeting to doing a writing activity (see the Writing Activities page). If a person happens to finish writing their response to the special prompt before everyone else, then they may proceed to working on a project or writing from regular prompts.

  • Personal Project day: everyone individually works towards their own project/goal at the meeting.
    • Note: prompts provided if you do not have a current project
    • At the end of the day, everyone shares at least a little about their writing process or a little of their writing.

  • Workshop day: writing club members volunteer a work of their own to share with the group for comments and constructive criticism
    • Note: the work examined on this day could be from a Writing Club Project day, from a class, or from anything!

  • Theme day: the group focuses on a particular type of writing (like poetry) or writing genre (like fantasy) through theme works and theme-styled prompts.
    • Theme works: look over some examples of theme
